Lewatit® K 2649 is a macroporous, strongly acidic resin in spherical bead form, featuring sulfonic acid groups. It is dried and designed for anhydrous conditions, with a large pore structure, high crosslinking, and good mechanical stability. This resin is suitable for applications in both polar and non-polar media, including phenol alkylations with olefins, olefin oligomerizations, esterifications, etherifications, and alkylation of larger molecules. For processes involving water use or generation, it is recommended to substitute Lewatit® K 2649 with Lewatit® K 2629. Optimal performance requires adherence to state-of-the-art technology and processes, with additional guidance available from Lanxess, Business Unit Liquid Purification Technologies.
